The walking clock is 3 feet wide, 24 feet long, and 9 feet tall. As seen above the pendulum is a wheel with 12 shoes that take one minute to walk to and fro on the boardwalk. First it starts walking down the boardwalk to the green circle. When it hits the green circle, the feet walk backwards, and when it hits the red stop sign, it walks forward and advances the time one minute.
The movement uses giant aluminum gears and ladder chain as opposed to the traditional brass gears. The Walking Clock is entirely original and every piece is functional. If any piece is removed, the clock can not keep time. At our shop, we hand made every piece including the boardwalk. All in all about two thousand hours were spent to complete this one-of-a-kind piece.
